Comedy a life-long dream

NANAIMO - Local comedian Peter Hudson opens for Tim Nutt at the Port Theatre Friday (Jan. 26).

Peter Hudson loves to make people laugh.

Even in every day conversations he’s cracking jokes.

The Nanaimo comedian is opening for Tim Nutt’s comedy night performance at the Port Theatre Friday (Jan. 26) 7:30 p.m.

“I’ve been wanting to do this my whole life,” said Hudson about performing comedy.

He said his comedy routine is a “little bit dirty” – nothing too crass – but it is definitely for an adult audience. He started performing a couple years ago, getting his first taste of soaking in the laughs at an event at Nanaimo’s Diners Rendezvous restaurant.

He draws inspiration from life experiences and conversations. He works on drilling rigs in Alberta most of the year and that life has been the subject of many of his jokes.

Hudson said he’s looking forward to performing at the Port Theatre because it is an entirely different experience than at a bar or restaurant. People are there exclusively to watch the show and they aren’t  distracted by a conversation at the next table or ordering food.

“People are on you, hanging on your every word,” he said.

Hudson already had a chance to experience performing at the Port Theatre. He also opened for Jon Lovitz when he performed last year.

“I was just in awe of him,” said Hudson, adding Lovitz gave him some sage advice. “He told me be you funny, don’t be anyone else funny.”

While most of Hudson's comedy is more adult orientated, the comedian wants to start writing clean comedy. He has aspirations of appearing on television and he said he wants him mom to be able to come and see his act.

The Nanaimo comedian is excited to be opening for Tim Nutt.

“He is funny as hell,” he said.

Tickets are $26; $24 for members, students and seniors and are available by calling 250-754-8550 or www.porttheatre.com.
