The City of Nanaimo is seeking nominations for the 2016 Culture and Heritage Awards.

People are invited to nominate individuals or organizations for the following four categories: excellence in culture, honour in culture, emerging cultural leader and the John Thomson Heritage Memorial award.

According to the City of Nanaimo's website the John Thomson award was created in 1994 to honour individuals who “demonstrate outstanding heritage services and dedication to the community.” Past winners include Jill Stannard and John Cass.

The Nanaimo Culture and Heritage Commission will review the nominees and make recommendations to city council.

The recipients will be recognized during a ceremony at the Nanaimo Port Theatre in April.

The deadline for nominations is Tuesday (Nov. 17). For more information please go to www.nanaimo.ca and click on the culture and heritage tab under the department's menu.
