City seeks designers, artists for banners

Amateur and professional artists and graphic designers are invited to enter a competition to design street banners for the City of Nanaimo

Amateur and professional artists and graphic designers are invited to enter a competition to design street banners for the City of Nanaimo.

The banners will be installed along major streets and throughout the downtown core for the duration of the summer months in 2012 and 2013.

The new banners will hang alongside the winning banners from last year, designed by Robert Plante.

The intent of the competition is to:

• Develop banner designs which creatively reflect and inspire the community;

• Provide colour and vibrancy to downtown city streets by emphasizing themes of Nanaimo: It’s a Lifestyle;

• Provide an opportunity to showcase existing or new works created by local or regional artists.

An optional information meeting is set for Jan. 24, 4 p.m., at the Bowen Park lawn bowling clubhouse for people interested in submitting a bid.

Proposal documents are available at www.nanaimo.ca  within the business section of the website on the ‘bid opportunities’ page.

The deadline to submit a proposal is 2 p.m. on Feb. 15. Late proposals will not be considered.

Proposals must be dropped off at the City Purchasing Office at 2020 Labieux Rd.

For more information about the bid process, please call Kirsty MacDonald, parks and open space planner for the city, at 250-755-7506 or e-mail kirsty.macdonald@nanaimo.ca.

The city reserves the right to select any or none of the submissions.

Winners will be selected and notified on or about Feb. 29.
