Chorus earns accolades at competition

The Tidesmen Barbershop Chorus from Nanaimo earned third place in a district contest that attracted hundreds of participants.

The 65-voice chorus performed and competed in Abbotsford earlier this month against choruses from across the Pacific Northwest.

The group set a personal best for high scores. Three quartets from the larger chorus also competed, with Fourmost, made up of Jay Cousins, Brian Culingworth, Jim Mick and Barry Jones, took fourth place and a trophy for top senior quartet.

Natural Notes, with Martin Ketteringham, Shawn Wright, Alex McDonald and Rod McDonald, earned third place, while The Notables, with RobRoy Kuziw, Chris Winslow,  Roy Sage and Glenn Harvey, placed seventh.

More than 700 barbershop singers attended the event.
