Children’s entertainers Bobs and LoLo create educational app

Application teaches children Pacific salmon facts

Children just need to swipe a screen to start an adventure full of games, songs and learning in the new educational app created by children’s entertainers Bobs and LoLo.

The award-winning duo, both graduates of Dover Bay Secondary School, created Run Salmon Run, an app which delves into the life cycle of Pacific salmon with fun facts from the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Robyn Hardy, a.k.a. Bobs, and Lorraine Pond, a.k.a. LoLo, teamed up with Turtlebox Productions Inc. and Box of Frogs Media to create the app. Funding was provided by Creative B.C.’s Interactive Fund and an Indiegogo campaign.

The educational program builds on the success of Bobs and LoLo’s children’s book, which was funded through the B.C. Salmon Marketing Council, and song featured on the album Dirty Feet, which share the same name.

The journey into the new digital realm started for the duo last year.

“We kind of jumped on that because we thought that would be amazing,” said Hardy.

It includes the Run Salmon Run official music video, chords and lyrics so people and play and sing along, a life cycle game about the salmon, and fun facts about Pacific salmon.

“It’s educational. It’s fun for kids. It engages them and keeps them busy,” said Hardy.

Hardy said they were given freedom when crafting the application.

“We had quite a bit of creative control, so that was pretty nice to bring our ideas to a new media world,” said Hardy.

The app is available on iTunes. There are no in-app purchases.
