Budding teen film stars sought for production

Movie shot over weekend includes workshop, screening

A film slam will take a project  from initial concept to finished piece in less than 50 hours next month.

Adrian Hough of Spotlight Academy and Joan Herron of Character Driven Media are teaming up for the inaugural Behind the Lens Film Slam for budding filmmakers, actors and editors.

People with an interest in the craft are invited to be part of the production team.

The ‘talent’ will come from Spotlight Academy, providing the skills and training needed to pull off a stellar performance in a short period of time, while Character Driven Media will be giving an overall workshop for behind-the-scenes production team members.

The workshop begins June 8 in preparation for the big weekend of filming.

The project begins June 10 with initial concept at 6 p.m. and wraps up June 12 at 8 p.m. A screening for friends and parents is set for June 13, 7 p.m., at Nanaimo Centre Stage, followed by an awards ceremony.

Applications are being considered for ages 13-18.

Apply at www.characterdriven.com and join the Film Slam group, where applicants can post reasons for wanting to be part of the production team on the discussion board.

Cast and crew will be chosen based on enthusiasm and ideas. A little experience is always an asset.

A registration fee of $200 for the people chosen will cover the pre-production workshops and Film Slam, and includes a DVD and two free tickets to the film screening on June 13.
