Blues festival seeks sponsors

NANAIMO -Blues Festival returns to three-day format and adds additional venues around downtown.

The Nanaimo Blues Society is seeking sponsors to support its Summertime Blues Festival in August.

There are seven different sponsorship categories for businesses to choose from.

Gerold Haukenfrers, the society’s president, said the board hopes to make the festival a successful event and is looking for support.

The group is bringing back the three-day festival format after cutting it back last year due to funding issues.

It estimates that more than 3,000 people attend the festival. The event has run in the Harbour City for the past nine years.

The group is hoping to have sponsors confirmed by the end of June. In July sponsors will receive their packages confirming support and outlining the benefits.

This year’s festival includes performances by David Gogo, the Mud Dog Band, Jayden Holman, The Distributors, Rita Chiarelli and more. The society has also expanded the festivities beyond the Maffeo Sutton Park location. There will be performances at the Queen’s, Lighthouse Pub and the Port Theatre this year.
