Barney Bentall returning to Nanaimo for charity concert

A British Columbia music icon will be playing in the Harbour City later this year.

The Port Theatre just announced this week that Barney Bentall and the Cariboo Express will be performing at the venue this fall.

The Nov. 24 concert is a fundraiser for the John Howard Society, which offers programs that help house the homeless. They also have addiction treamtnent programs, employment and mentorship programs.

Cariboo Express, includes Bentall and his son Dustin as well as Ridley Bent, Wendy Bird, Kendel Carson and Matt Masters.

Bentall, a platinum-selling and Juno Award-winning recording artist during the 1990s, was born into a famous famiy, the Bentall family. His grandfather, Charles, was once the head of the Bentall Group and its construction company, Dominion Construction. The family has developed land throughout the province, including the Bentall Centre in Vancouver.

Tickets for the Nov. 24 show are $35 or $15 for students and go on sale Friday (Sept. 8) at the Port Theatre box office or online at www.porttheatre.com. People can also call 250-754-8550 for tickets.
