Award-winning country trio Washboard Union playing Nanaimo show

Three-time winners of the Canadian Country Music Association’s Group of the Year, and five-time winners of the association’s Roots Artist Album of the Year awards will be stop in Nanaimo during their six-day provincial tour.

The Washboard Union, comprised of stepbrothers Aaron Grain and Chris Duncombe and best friend David John Roberts, share a love for the art of songwriting and storytelling that resonates with audiences across North America and Europe, noted a release for the show.

“This is a band that cares deeply about their fans and anyone who has seen them live knows the Washboard Union engage with their audience at every opportunity,” noted the release.

The Vancouver trio’s latest album, Everbound, released in 2020, has been described as an achievement that kept “the good times rolling” with roof-raising anthems, poignant ballads and top-notch musicianship.

Performing with the band will be singer-songwriter and guitarist Raquel Cole, who the release noted won the CCMA Discovery Award in 2015. The musician’s first single released in 2021, Think About You, quickly landed itself in the Top 40 with the music video making Cole one of the top three finalists in SiriusXM’s Top of the Country competition.

“Her skill as a musician is one of the first things the audience notices,” noted the release. “Singing has been her first love for as long as she can remember, acquiring her first guitar at the age of nine and writing songs soon after.”

Cole and the Washboard Union will perform at Nanaimo’s Port Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for for the show can obtained online through www.porttheatre.com.
