Artists sought for banners, public art

NANAIMO – City issued an invitation to all amateur and professional artists to submit proposals for the design of street banners

The City of Nanaimo has issued an invitation to all amateur and professional artists and graphic designers to submit proposals for a juried competition for the design of street banners as well as outdoor public art pieces.

The banners will be installed along major streets and throughout the downtown core for the summer months in 2014 and 2015.

The public art pieces will be installed in May 2014 at various locations around town for a year-long period.

Proposal documents are now available online at www.nanaimo.ca within the business section of the website on the ‘bid opportunities’ page.

Information sessions are set for both projects – the first will be on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m. at Bowen Park ‘s Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club. The session for the outdoor public art pieces will be held Nov. 5 at 5 p.m. at the downtown Nanaimo Art Gallery.

Proposals for both banners and public art are due Jan.10 by 3 p.m. Please submit proposals only at the city purchasing office located at 2020 Labieux Road.

Late proposals will not be considered.
