Artists present 'grave' sights to behold at Nanaimo Museum exhibit

Submissions for the museum's community gallery exhibit will be displayed until Aug. 31

For this year's Heritage Art Exhibit, the Nanaimo Museum asked artists to start with some bone-chilling inspiration.

For the exhibit, titled Picture this Painting: Cemeteries, artists were asked to consider cemeteries or grave markers as historical records as a starting point for their projects. Submissions were hung at the beginning of the month in the Community Gallery at the museum and will remain displayed until Aug. 31. Select pieces are for sale.

Rooney Dumler's photograph titled 'Your Mother Earth' won first place in the exhibit's individual category, and Steph Kveton's acrylic wool and cotton piece titled 'Unrecorded but not Forgotten' won first place in the exhibit's partner category.

Visitors can vote for their favourite work of art in person.
