Youth volunteers in Nanaimo want to do their part to try to keep people warm this winter.
Volunteer Nanaimo YouthNetwork, formerly Youth 20/20 Can, is again organizing its Coats for Christmas charity drive to be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, at Maffeo Sutton Park.
The youths are hoping people will come by to drop off new or gently used coats, gloves, mittens, tuques and socks.
"Pretty much anything that can keep people warm for the winter. It's getting cold out here and a lot of people don't have [warm] clothing," said Kyle Wickland, a YouthNetwork member. "It's really important for us to give back … and something warm can really make a big difference in people's lives."
The YouthNetwork will have beverages and cookies to share this weekend at the park. They will be at the Lions Pavilion on Friday from 3-7 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The charity drive is being done in partnership with the Salvation Army, which will distribute the donations.
