A Nanaimo youth volunteer group hopes its efforts will help keep people in need a little warmer over the holidays.

Youth 20/20 Can Nanaimo is hosting Coats for Christmas this coming week, asking for donations of coats and other warm clothing which will be passed along to the Salvation Army’s New Hope Centre for distribution.

“We’re organizing this coat drive because we want to give back to the community. We’re collecting coats, hats, gloves and scarves for people in need,” said Sonja Ferg, Youth 20/20 Can member.

Volunteers will be at the Lions Pavilion at Maffeo Sutton Park from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11.
