Yoga-thon supports mothers

If practising sound mind and body while contributing to a mission to help end global maternal mortality sounds like a productive day, then be sure to sign on to OmTown Yoga’s upcoming yogathon.

The upstart downtown yoga and Pilates studio is encouraging wellness-minded Nanaimo and area residents to participate in its inaugural yogathon. The event raises money for Amnesty International’s effort to address inequality of women and girls that put them at risk during pregnancy and childbirth due to poor health care access.

“I wanted to organize this event as a way to come together as a community and take positive action,” said Stephanie Green, owner of OmTown Yoga. “When we come together as a group we have incredible powers to help support change and Amnesty International is an organization that is making a real difference globally.”

The yogathon, which takes place Saturday (April 16) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., will allow participants to practise a maximum of eight different yoga classes by eight different instructors and take their love of yoga to new heights. The event is open for everyone from beginners to experienced yogis, who are free to partake in one or all eight classes, all of which are by donation.

A potluck and celebration will take place from 5:30-9 p.m.

Pledge forms can be picked up at OmTown Yoga at 43 Commercial St. For more information, please contact Green at info@omtown.ca.
