Workshops flush out water reuse

April showers provide an opportunity for area residents to learn more about the benefits of rainwater harvesting and water re-use workshops, hosted by the Regional District of Nanaimo’s Team Watersmart.

The free sessions will outline how to capture, store and treat rainwater for outdoor watering and potential indoor use, as well as how to use grey water systems to conserve water and energy by reusing filtered bath and shower water for toilet flushing.

Speakers at the workshops will include building and water consultant Dick Stubbs, rainwater harvesting specialist Bob Burgess and iDus Controls president and CEO Ron Hartman, who specializes in grey water systems with his Nanaimo-based business.

“People will come away with valuable, practical information about how these technologies work and how people in this area are using them,” said Joe Stanhope, RDN board chairman.

Two workshops are scheduled for the Nanaimo area, including Thursday (April 14), 6:30-8 p.m., at Aggie Hall, 465 South Rd., Gabriola Island; and April 30, 10-11:30 a.m., at Oliver Woods Community Centre, 6000 Oliver Rd.

Registration is required for all workshops. To register for the Nanaimo date contact the City of Nanaimo at ireg.nanaimo.ca or 250-756-5200. For the other dates, please contact recparks@rdn.bc.ca or call 250-248-3252.
