At last year’s Hike for Hospice

May is Hospice Month in B.C. and Nanaimo Community Hospice is inviting the community to the annual Hike for Hospice – A Walk to Remember and Picnic in the Park on May 1 at Maffeo Sutton Park.

May 1-7 is National Hospice and Palliative Care Week  as well as proclaimed for the City of Nanaimo. On this day, thousands of people in hundreds of locations across Canada will help raise money and awareness for the work of Hospice in their communities.

Last year in Nanaimo, more than 150 participants registered, gathered pledges and walked, strolled or ran along the Harbourfront walkway in memory of loved ones and to celebrate life.

In 2015 the event raised more than $47,000 toward the work of hospice in our community.

Hospice provides compassionate care to the dying, caregiving and grieving.  hospice programs are free and include professional grief counselling and volunteer-led group programs, palliative and caregiver support at home, in-hospital and in-care facilities, and more.

To register or get pledge forms either call 250-591-8811 or go to www.nanaimohospice.com. All proceeds stay in the Nanaimo community to support individuals families.
