Opportunities are available to help at Volunteer Nanaimo.

Nanaimo Disability Resource Centre – Front desk reception volunteers with good public relation and telephone skills are required for four-hour shift Monday morning or Friday morning 4166 Departure Bay Rd. Training is provided.  Please call Brenda Currant, volunteer coordinator, at 250-758-5547.


Kiwanis Village – Volunteers are needed for several programs including: adult day program; Polish or Cantonese translator; bingo helper; indoor bowling; gardeners; general store; and pastoral care. Criminal record checks are required for some positions, and are paid for by Kiwanis Village. The Farm at Cedar Woods – The farm’s traditional housing for men opens this month and needs donations of linens, kitchen supplies, pots, pans, bedding, a refrigerator and freezer. If you are cleaning out closets or upgrading, please call 250-323-3553 or e-mail info@thefarmatcedarwoods.ca.


Provincial performing arts – This group, in support of young artists, is looking for volunteers for door monitors and admission competition May 28-30. Shifts are 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.  For information or to volunteer, please call Tricia Barnes at 250-591-1882 or e-mail tricia2home@shaw.ca.


Nanaimo Floating Boat Show – Volunteers bare needed at the information booth to provide information to visitors regarding the June 1-3 show at Nanaimo Boat Basin. Shifts include: June 1, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30-7:30 p.m.; June 2, 9.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2-6:30 p.m.: and June 3, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1-4:30 p.m. Please contact Shaunda at 250-754-8141 or by e-mail at shaunda@dnbia.ca.


Heart and Stroke Foundation – Volunteers are needed for the Big Bike event June 16-17. Duties include registration, handing out incentives, etc. Training and materials provided. Downtown Nanaimo Buisness Improvement Association – Volunteers who are friendly, approachable and have a knowledge of downtown are needed for Cobblestone Classic Bike Race, June 17, at various locations, for a four-hour shift.
