Nanaimo Youth Services – This youth-support organization is looking for a reliable bingo volunteer one morning a month (on average) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The first two sessions are Jan. 28 and March 12. Farm at Cedar Woods – Volunteers are required to work directly with participants in several areas such as animal care, garden activity, grounds activity, and maintenance. A minimum commitment of four hours a week is requested. A criminal record check is required. To apply, please telephone Jen LeGrand at 250-816-3552.

Alzheimer Society of B.C. – Volunteers with experience working with older adults with dementia (or a willingness to learn), are required to work under the direction of First Link coordinator. Duties include telephone calls to dementia family members to discuss and assess resources, provide support, record client information, work with coordinator, and occasionally client support.  A minimum of one two- to four-hour shift per week and a one-year commitment is requested. Auxiliary to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital – A volunteer with a pickup truck is needed at the auxiliary’s thrift store. The position involves lifting, so the volunteer must be in good physical health.  The commitment requires two hours each week, ongoing for three to six months. Habitat for Humanity – A volunteer with a forklift ticket is needed to help a student achieve forklift certification. A commitment of Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. is required. Habitat also needs volunteers to deliver and pick up furniture between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursdays. Pacific Rim Whale Society – Volunteers are required for the Tofino Whale Festival, March 19-25, to celebrate the return of 20,000 grey whales to Canada’s West Coast. Jobs include greeting festival participants, set up and take down of events, pre-festival organization, and more. Interested volunteers can register at www.pacificrimwhalefestival.com.

Heart and Stroke Foundation – Three positions are required in preparation for February’s Heart Month campaign. Positions include volunteer leaders, volunteer recruiters and Heart Month canvassers.
