VIU student receives $4,000 award

NANAIMO: A Vancouver island University student is among 10 recipients of a $4,000 RBC Aboriginal Student Award.

A Vancouver island University student is among 10 recipients of a $4,000 RBC Aboriginal Student Award.

Gerald Anawak of Nanaimo,  is studying geography and digital media at VIU. He, and none others, were selected from more than 500 applicants pursuing post-secondary education.

Since the award program was launched in 1992, more than $1.2 million dollars has been awarded to 118 First Nations, Inuit and Métis students across Canada.

Applications for 2013 will be accepted from Saturday (Dec. 1) to Feb. 28. Eligibility criteria and more information can be found at www.rbc.com/careers/aboriginal_student_awards.html.
