Modern day treasure hunters are coming to Nanaimo as the Treasure Hunters Roadshow rolls into town next week (Jan. 18-22).

Residents have the opportunity to discuss the value and history of their rare or unusual collectibles with roadshow representatives.

Specialists are hoping to see items such as coins and paper currency issued prior to 1970, toys, dolls, trains, vintage jewelry, old and modern musical instruments, war memorabilia, gold and silver jewelry, costume jewelry, advertising memorabilia, swords, knives and daggers.

Offers to purchase are based on rarity, condition and market value. If the price is right, payment will be made on the spot. A recent find included a 1960’s vintage guitar purchased at an event for $100,000.

The roadshow takes place at the Days Inn Harbourview Hotel, 809 Island Highway South. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 18-21 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 22. Admission is free.
