The Regional District of Nanaimo board recently approved a one-year trial for the Free Fare for Class Rides program.

The program allows classes to use the Nanaimo Regional Transit System free for the purpose of field trips and helps students to learn about the transit system with the goal of encouraging them to use transit in the future.

“The Free Fare for Class Rides program is a good way to familiarize youth with the transit system so they will be more likely to use it when they are older,” said transit select committee chairman Bill Holdom, in a press release. “That in turn will help to reduce vehicle emissions within the RDN.”
