The Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock is resuming this fall, and fundraising is well underway in Nanaimo.

A barbecue fundraiser was held at Dodd’s Furniture and Mattress in Nanaimo on July 23. Burgers and hot dogs were for sale and owner Gordy Dodd was even on hand to help man the grill.

Cpl. Terry Crawford, of Nanaimo RCMP, is one of the riders participating this year and he said he is training for the event which begins Sept. 24 at Port Alice, passes through Nanaimo Oct. 2 and concludes Oct. 7 in Victoria.

“Mentally, we encourage each other obviously, but all you have to do is think of the kids that you’re doing this for and the battle their facing and it makes 100-plus kilometres a day seem like nothing at all because these kids are going through a struggle that just dwarfs anything we’re doing on this tour,” said Crawford.

As of the end of July, Crawford had raised $3,388.
