Telethon raises $171K for child development centre

NANAIMO – Money raised will help reduce wait list for services.

The third annual Nanaimo Child Development Centre Telethon, held Sunday at the Port Theatre, raised $171,860.

The event, which featured performances of music and dance, topped last year’s total of $170,000.

Donations poured in over phone lines, manned by volunteers and local celebrities, and in person.

The money raised from the telethon will be used to reduce the wait list of 264 children needing services, as well as help pay for programs and services in the Nanaimo community.

People can still donate by going to www.nanaimocdc.com and clicking the red “Donate Now” button. More information on the centre’s services and programs can also be found online.
