Talk to examine Egyptian situation

Nanaimo and Gabriola Island residents have a chance to hear a first-hand account of what the situation in Eqypt was like.

For a few mesmerizing weeks earlier this year, the world watched as citizens of Egypt forced out a dictator and stood up for human rights and democratic reform.

Now Nanaimo and Gabriola Island residents have a chance to hear a first-hand account of what the situation in Eqypt was like.

Don Wright, an Amnesty International staff worker based in Vancouver, was in Cairo during the anti-government protests.

He will talk Monday (May 16) about his experience of the protests and describe the measures Egyptian authorities must now take to ensure that all Egyptians are able to participate meaningfully in shaping their future.

The free presentation will be held at The Roxy Theatre, 560 North Rd., on Gabriola Island. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the presentation begins at 7:30 p.m.
