Summer heats up for charity

Nanaimo Professional Firefighters host its third annual Summer Heat charity fundraiser June 16.

There will be a hot time in the old town June 16 as the Nanaimo Professional Firefighters host its third annual Summer Heat charity fundraiser.

In support of the B.C. Burn Fund, Summer Heat has raised more than $60,000 in its first two years, providing Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with specialized emergency care and rehabilitation equipment for patients with burn injuries, as well as training for nursing staff.

Taking place at Beban Park Social Centre, the evening features a red carpet reception, silent and live auctions, dinner, dancing, live music, door prizes, a fashion show and firefighters in full dress uniform serving guests and waiting on tables. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

“This is a big night for us, very exciting,” said firefighter Greg Finstad. “The community support is fantastic, we’re able to raise a lot of money for an important cause and everybody has a great time.”

With just 400 tickets available to the event, Summer Heat is nearly sold out. Tickets are $75 each or a table of eight for $500.  For tickets information, please e-mail gregory.finstad@nanaimo.ca.
