Students help clear plants from city park

City of Nanaimo parks crews got help with the removal of invasive species at Colliery Dam Park from a class of John Barsby Community School students earlier this month.  The students are enrolled in a new elective program that focuses on topics such as horticulture, landscaping and the maintenance of green spaces.  Two dozen students along with city horticulturalists did a session of invasive plant removal. These practical learning sessions are planned to happen a few times each month. Students learned about what invasive species are, how they impact native species and how to properly remove them.   Community groups interested in helping with invasive plant removal should contact Eileen Bossons, recreation coordinator at 250-756-5203.
