For the third year running, orthodontist John Pappel has put a smile on the faces of Nanaimo school district student athletes without even a hint of dental work.
Pappel donated $6,000 to the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation for athletic awards to encourage students to continue their athletic pursuits.
Cedar Community, John Barsby, Nanaimo District Woodlands, Wellington and Dover Bay secondary schools each received $1,000 to distribute to one male and one female athlete in Grades 8-12.
The students are selected based on their scholastic achievement and team involvement throughout the year by the schools athletic director.
The awards were distributed at the end of this year to the students.
