Charlotte Davis, the City of Nanaimo’s manager of sanitation and recycling, holds up a new pocket ashtray that residents can pick up for free from any city facility, including the downtown bylaw office.
The ashtrays extinguish and store cigarette butts until they can be emptied into a garbage bin as a way to snuff out cigarette litter that can be unsightly, create fire hazards and cause harmful runoff into rivers and oceans.
