The Sikh community has rallied to help the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation purchase equipment for the new emergency department at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Members from the group’s two temples – Miri Piri Darbar Sikh Gurduwara and the Vancouver Island Khalsa Diwan Society – worked together to raise more than $20,000 toward the purchase of eye equipment in the new ER.

Maeve O’Byrne, foundation president, said the Sikh community has been gracious in showing the cultural importance of helping the larger community.
