The sight of a rooster could win an Island photographer a host of prizes.
The Island Farmers’ Alliance is hosting its summer photo contest with shutterbugs keeping an eye out for the association’s rooster sign.
To qualify for the contest, photographers ca e-mail a photo of the IFA rooster sign, along with the name of the farm where they saw the sign, to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Each sign, and farm, counts as a single entry into the contest. There are regional prizes to be won, including two tickets to the annual Saanich Peninsula Harvest Feast Sept. 22.
The contest dealine is Sept. 5.
The rooster sign indicates a farm is a member of IFA, and has agreed to its code of ethics.
“The contest is a fun way for people to start looking for the rooster, an emblem of fresh farm food on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands,” said Catherine Pastula, IFA president. “Wherever you see this sign, you can be sure the produce is Island grown.”
The association’s mission is to ensure the sustainability and growth of agriculture on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
