Arthritis is not a disease of the elderly – it can strike at any age, from children as young as two to seniors.
More than 4 million people in Canada, or one in six, live with this painful disease – 600,000 in B.C. alone.
To help ease the pain and difficulty of living with the disease, the Arthritis Society is offering an educational workshop in Nanaimo on Wednesday (April 27).
“We know people manage their arthritis better when they understand what is happening to their bodies and what they can do about it,” said Cari Taylor, manager education and services for the Arthritis Society, B.C. and Yukon Division.
The two-hour workshop focuses specifically on pain management by introducing different methods to cope with chronic pain.
To date, the cause of arthritis remains unknown. While there is no known cure, with early diagnosis and proper treatment, it is possible for a person to reduce debilitating joint damage.
The workshop runs 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Harbourfront library. To register, please call 1-866-414-7766.
