Science World bringing opportunities to schools

Students in Nanaimo will get to experience a zany brand of science, thanks to Science World British Columbia.

Schools will see explorations in science, as well as a networking event to connect young adults with science and technology professionals to learn more about career opportunities in science.

The week of events culminates in a community celebration Saturday (April 16), 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Georgia Avenue Community School in Harewood.

“Through the Year of Science, the B.C. government wants to help raise the level of science awareness and skills development in our province,” said Moira Stilwell, parliamentary secretary for industry, research and innovation. “These innovative community programs organized by Science World will help British Columbians discover that science is not only fun but important to our health and well-being, our lifestyle and our future.”

With decreasing enrolment in math and science among students, it’s imperative that young adults are provided the opportunity to explore career options in science, said Paris Gaudet, executive director of Mid-Island Science, Technology and Innovation Council.
