School speed zones enforced

NANAIMO – Private schools begin despite strike in public education.

Police will be enforcing school zone speed limits next week whether or not a teachers’ strike prevents schools from opening.

Nanaimo RCMP are reminding the public that although public schools might not open Tuesday (Sept. 2), private schools will be back in session and police will enforce the 30 km/h speed limit in school zones.

They are also reminding drivers to watch their speed and keep an eye out for children in cross walks and students are reminded to use crosswalks and walk on sidewalks.

School zones are in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nanaimo’s private schools include Nanaimo Christian School, Discover Montessori School and Aspengrove School.
