Save-On-Foods marks 100th year

NANAIMO – The Overwaitea Food Group’s Travelling Road Show will include interactive displays.

A century of Overwaitea Food Group’s history is rolling into town Sunday (Aug. 23) to celebrate the company’s 100th birthday.

The Overwaitea Food Group’s Travelling Road Show will include interactive displays with a historical timeline, artifacts, an exhibit showcasing the company’s retail innovations, use of technology and the economic impact Overwaitea has had in the communities it’s served during the past 100 years. The road show takes place at the Save-On-Foods location at Country Club Centre, noon to 4 p.m.

Customers will also have the opportunity to view a 1915 Model T, which will be placed in front of a replica of the original Overwaitea store front.

The business started in 1915 in New Westminster. In 1918, Nanaimo became the third community to welcome an Overwaitea store.
