More than 150 participants in the eighth annual Run for Life sprinted to a successful finish, raising more than $17,000 for the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.
All proceeds from last month's five-kilometre fun run in Bowen Park go toward the new emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
Russ Burke of Canadian Western Bank was the top-pledge earner, raising $665 from friends and family. The event is organized by Central Vancouver Island financial institutions in a joint effort that includes management, staff and clientele.
The hospital foundation has pledged $4 million to purchase essential equipment for the $36.9 million expansion project scheduled to open in June 2012.
