Run for Life registration is out of the starter’s gate and now is the time to get in the race.

Inspired families, friends and co-workers will join central Vancouver Island financial institutions at the eighth annual Run for Life fundraiser in support of the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.

The May 29 fun five-kilometre run/walk takes place at Bowen Park and organizers hope to register 200 participants and raise $20,000 for the purchase of essential equipment for the emergency department expansion at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

The hospital foundation has pledged $4 million to purchase essential equipment for the $36.9 million expansion project.

“This is a great opportunity for all financial institutions on Central Vancouver Island to work together for such a worthy and important cause,” said Greg Scott, Run for Life committee chairman and a branch manager at Coastal Community Credit Union.

Participants can register online and collect pledges at www.nanaimohospitalfoundation.com.

Brenda Rositano of the hospital foundation said it is always fun working with the Run for Life committee.

“They are very motivated to make a difference and to increase participation each year,” she said. “It is easy to be inspired to raise funds for the new emergency department, we all need it.”
