Real estate board supports RCMP Victim Services in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services was surprised over the holidays with a donation from the Island’s real estate board.

According to a Nanaimo RCMP press release, Victim Services members were surprised and “somewhat overwhelmed” when the organization received a donation of $2,000 from the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board.

The cheque was presented to Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman, by EXP Realty’s Kelly O’Dwyer, a VIREB director, and former VIREB president Kay Broen.

“Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services is very grateful for the generous donation from the VIREB,” said Cheryl Zapotichny, Victim Services program manager, in the press release.

Nanaimo RCMP Victim Services provides support and assistance to victims of crime and other trauma. Services consist of liaising between police and Crown counsel, providing court updates, accompanying victims to court, explaining the criminal justice system and offering emotional support.
