Rail foundation delivers donations to Island food banks

ICF shares $14,000 among seven food banks, including Nanaimo’s Loaves and Fishes

The Island Corridor Foundation is helping keep food banks on track during the pandemic.

The ICF stopped in Nanaimo on Tuesday, May 19, to pass along a $2,000 cheque to the Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank.

The donation was part of a larger $14,000 sum to seven food banks up and down the rail line.

“The ICF is a part of many different communities on Vancouver Island and wanted to provide some assistance where we are able to,” said Andrea Thomas, the foundation’s manager of corridor development, in a press release. “This is a small contribution but hopefully will make an impact and help ease some of the stress on people and families in all our communities.”

Peter Sinclair, executive director of Loaves and Fishes, said in the release that his organization is thankful for the donation during unprecedented times.

“Their support will help ensure families in our community have food in the coming weeks and months,” Sinclair said.

Other food banks on the Island that are receiving $2,000 donations from ICF include the Comox Valley Foodbank, Parksville-Qualicum’s Mt. Arrowsmith Salvation Army Community Ministries, Port Alberni Community Food Bank-Salvation Army, Cowichan Valley Basket Society, Goldstream Foodbank and Victoria’s Mustard Seed.
