Lantzville residents gathered to celebrate the community’s history today.
Lantzville Minetown Day festivities took place at Huddlestone Park on Saturday, Aug. 12, featuring chicken-poop bingo, watermelon eating, face-painting, tractor rides, food trucks and vendors and live music.
Mark Taylor, a member of the organizing committee, said the tradition is approaching 50 years.
“It’s been going for a long time … it’s like the 48th year that it’s been going on and in this format here, we’ve been doing it for the last 10-12 years here at Huddlestone Park, pretty much as you see it today,” he said.
He said the competitions, including nail hammering in addition to watermelon eating, are always fun.
“It’s great to see the kids out having fun,” said Taylor. “That’s what makes it all worthwhile, to see everybody having fun.”
