Parade participants rewarded for effort

The Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society’s entry into the Nanaimo Empire Days parade earned top marks from the judges in the non-commercial category.

The efforts of participants in the Nanaimo Empire Days Celebration Society’s annual parade did not go unnoticed by the thousands of spectators who lined Victoria Crescent, Commercial Street and Front Street or the parade judges.

The judging results included:

Best service club – Shriners; Eastern Star Jobs Daughters.

Best theme award – Hungarian Cultural Society.

Best commercial float – Island Savings; Slegg Lumber; Lucky One Charities.

Best non-commercial float – Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society; Angels Abreast dragonboat team; Cowichan Lake – Lady of the Lake.

Best motorized presentation – Old English Car Club; Bobby the Clown; Vintage Tractors.

Best animal presentation – Nanaimo Kennel Club; Plum Creek Ponies.

Best cultural presentation – VIVA.

Best children’s presentation – Flower Princess; Sea Cadets; DJ Book It.

Best high school marching band – Kent Lake High School Washington state.

Best military band – Amphion Sea Cadets.

Best pipe band – Pacific Gael Pipes and Drums.

Best community marching band – Nanaimo concert band.

Best cadet band –  205 Collishaw Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron; J.P. Bell Navy League.
