The B.C. SPCA in Nanaimo hopes some foster families will be able to commit to care for dogs for a six-month period.
The organization is seeking volunteers who can provide home care and support for dogs in need, according to a press release. The SPCA wants to find adults who can make a six-month commitment, have space in their home to accommodate a pet, and the time to attend to its needs.
“Foster care volunteers are truly guardian angels to thousands of animals who come into the B.C. SPCA’s care every year,” said Michelle Rodgers, manager of volunteer resources for the society, in the release. “We could not help nearly as many animals at risk in the community without their support.”
Foster pet owners should have access to a vehicle to transport the dog to and from the shelter and veterinary appointments. Rodgers said specialized and experienced foster volunteers who can provide behavioural and medical support are especially needed.
