Nanaimo residents sent property tax notices

NANAIMO – Residents reminded to collect Home Owner Grant.

Property tax notices were sent out to residents of Nanaimo last week by mail and e-mail.

City council approved its tax rate for 2015 at meeting in early May, setting a one-per cent tax increase within city boundaries. Property tax notices will also include levies collected for other agencies, such as the Regional District of Nanaimo, Province of B.C. School Tax, and others.

Combined, the tax increase for 2015 works out to about $55 annually for the average home.

“It is important to claim your Home Owner Grant, if eligible, and pay your taxes on time to avoid penalties,” said Diane Hiscock, manager of revenue services for the City of Nanaimo. “If you have not received your tax notice by now, please contact our office.”

This year’s due date to pay municipal taxes is July 2.
