Nanaimo offers non-profits money for litter pick up

NANAIMO – The city is seeking applications for its Cleaner Community Partnership Program.

Not-for-profits can earn cash for their cause with litter pick up.

The City of Nanaimo is seeking applications for the Cleaner Community Partnership Program, which offers registered non-profits money for cleaning up the Harbour City.

Participants will get $50 per kilometre for finishing assigned areas. All the equipment and collection services will be provided under the program, as well as signs to highlight the group's participation.

“The Cleaner Community Partnership Program is an excellent example of what the city and the community can achieve by working together,” said Charlotte Davis, the city’s manager of sanitation and recycling.“The city’s streets are given a good spring clean and in turn the valuable work of non profit groups in our community is highlighted and supported.”

Limited spots are available.

Participating organizations must appoint a minimum six volunteers per group that are over the age of 12, and provide insurance, protective clothing, adult supervision and transportation. Supervisors must attend a safety training session.

Applications are due March 23 and are available by e-mail at publicworksinfo@nanaimo.ca or by phone at 250-758-5222.
