A Nanaimo educational non-profit is more mobile after help from Mid-Island Co-op.
In a press release, Nanaimo Science offered its appreciation to Mid-Island Co-op, which assisted in the purchase of two vans for the non-profit society’s Science of the Move wing, offering science programs to children and families in the Nanaimo area.
The vehicles will be used to shuttle outreach educators to schools across Nanaimo-Ladysmith school district, preschool programs, daycare centres and groups that support people with diverse needs, stated the press release, in addition to parks and green spaces for the society’s summer-time Science in the Park series.
In addition to the donation, Mid-Island Co-op has helped fund fuel costs in the past and more recently paid for a set of digital microscopes and has donated $20,000 to assist in the continued growth of science programming, noted the press release.
Elaine Parker, Nanaimo Science executive director, said she was grateful to Mid-Island Co-op.
“Their generosity and commitment to the community has allowed us to expand what we do and deliver more science programming, delighting children and families from all around the Nanaimo area and beyond,” Parker said in the press release.
Ian Anderson, Mid-Island Co-op CEO, says the business was pleased to support the non-profit.
“Investing in our Island communities is a cornerstone of Mid Island Co-op’s values,” Anderson said in the press release. “Thanks to our members, we’re able to give back to organizations like Nanaimo Science that share this same community focus. We’re delighted to help them continue to deliver engaging science education programs to children and their families across the region.”
