Coins added up again this winter during the Nanaimo News Bulletin’s Coins for Kids charity drive.

The community newspaper recently presented two $2,000 cheques – one each to the Great Nanaimo Toy Drive and BGC Central Vancouver Island, formerly the Boys and Girls Club.

Coins for Kids is a year-round charitable initiative, with drop-off jars at the News Bulletin office, all of Nanaimo’s Quality Foods locations, and John’s Bedrooms, and the fundraising efforts are ramped up each December.

The News Bulletin would like to extend its gratitude to Quality Foods, John’s Bedrooms, longtime volunteers Pete MacDonald and Ian Thorpe, Nanaimo Foundation for administering online donations, and to all the community members who drop money in the jars.
