A Nanaimo RCMP member was recognized last week for his efforts to save the life of a Nanaimo city councillor.

Coun. Gord Fuller was driving on Milton Street near Victoria Road in January when he was struck by a heart attack. He was fortunate to get immediate help from two passersby and Const. Jocelyn Picard, who happened upon the two men tending to Fuller, who was lying unconscious on the ground.

Picard called for an ambulance and performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation for about 10 minutes until he was relieved by paramedics who rushed Fuller to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Fuller made a full recovery.

Picard was presented with a certificate of appreciation Friday at Nanaimo RCMP detachment for his efforts.

"I will be forever grateful. His actions saved my life," Fuller said, in a press release.
