A number of graduating students from Nanaimo school district secondary schools are recipients of $462,000 in scholarships, bursaries and awards from the Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation.
A total of 372 students will receive awards of amounts ranging from $100 to $5,000 each for post-secondary educational pursuits and according to Erin van Steen, foundation director, the awards were funded by local service clubs, community organizations, private donors and the Ministry of Education.
Amongst Nanaimo students receiving awards of $3,000 or more:
Dover Bay Secondary School
Genevieve Amaral: Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Auxiliary Bursary $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Anika Brown: Kirkwood Academy Parents’ Auxiliary Award $200, Justin Smith Scholarship $2,500 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Gavin Cameron: William and Peggy Mawhinney Memorial Scholarship $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Nanaimo District Secondary School
Nakeeta Arntson: Gyro Club of Nanaimo-Elmer Bradshaw/Jack Ryan Award $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Miryam Bassett: Kinsmen Club of Nanaimo Trevor Thompson Memorial Scholarship $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Camila Marcus: Gabriola Island Lions Club Award $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Maireid Reid: Gabriola Ambulance Society Scholarship $2,000 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Wellington Secondary School
Caitlin Jakobsen: The Hitchcock Memorial Award $2,000, Wellington Student Council Award $250 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
Paige Turner: Gyro Club of Nanaimo-Elmer Bradshaw/Jack Ryan Award $2,000, Wellington Student Council Award $250 and Ministry District Dogwood Authority Scholarship $1,000.
