Firefighters will be outside of several of the city’s supermarkets this weekend trying to fill their boots for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
The Nanaimo Professional Firefighters International Association of Fire Fighters Local 905 are holding their annual Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15.
According to a press release from the Nanaimo Professional Firefighters, muscular dystrophy is a group of neuromuscular diseases that make the body’s muscles weak and less flexible over time. The condition usually worsens progressively and people living with muscular dystrophy can lose the ability to walk, talk or care for themselves.
“This is an important charity event to us," said Blair Pinker, Nanaimo Fire Rescue firefighter. "There are many Canadians who are directly affected by this disease. The money we raise goes towards helping them and their families."
Firefighters will be outside both Country Grocer locations, Save-On-Foods locations at Country Club Centre and Woodgrove Centre, Thifty Foods at Longwood Station, Real Canadian Superstore and Quality Foods Harewood this weekend.
