Nanaimo’s firefighters are hoping the public will step up and help them fill their boots with cash for a good cause this weekend.

The Nanaimo Professional Firefighters IAFF Charitable Society’s annual Boot Drive supporting Muscular Dystrophy Canada is happening this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, when firefighters will be posted at six grocery stores across the city.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue’s firefighters are hoping for a repeat of the success the drive achieved in 2021 when about $18,000 was raised, the highest amount collected in several years.

This year, firefighters will have ‘tap’ debit machines to make donating even easier and, hopefully, come away with even more money to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

“We are pleased for the privilege to serve our growing community. The Nanaimo Firefighters Charitable Society is another way that our members are involved in our city, and through our programs we help those we share our home with,” said Brad Terragni, Nanaimo firefighter and charitable society member, in a press release. “Muscular Dystrophy Canada has been our longtime partner in helping those in need as well, and we are excited to support them.”

Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s stated mission is to enhance the lives of those who live with neuromuscular disorders through support and resources, as well as to fund research toward finding a cure. For more infomration, visit http://muscle.ca.
