The Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival will team with a grocery store in Nanaimo to raise money for Nanaimo Regional Hospital Foundation.
In a press release, Fairway Gorge Paddling Club, event organizer, said it will work in conjunction with Fairway Market for the Toonie-For-Our-Town fundraiser in which shoppers at the Nanaimo North Town Centre store will be asked to make a donation to the campaign.
The non-profit paddling club is producing the festival, taking place from Friday, July, 8 to Sunday, July 10 at Maffeo Sutton Park, raising money to aid in the fight against cancer. There will be a carnation ceremony on Saturday, with the flowers being sold for $2 and proceeds going to the Vancouver Island chapter of the B.C. Cancer Foundation, the press release said.
“We’re excited about this weekend’s festival and we’re excited about giving back to the community through the Fairway Market campaign,” said Erik Ages, festival director, in the press release. “We have spent much of the year working on the Nanaimo Dragonboat Festival, and we’re happy to be contributing to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation.”
Fairway Market is a noted sponsor of both the paddling club and the Nanaimo festival.
